The Mill Park at Augusta, Maine, is a recently formed and rapidly developing social space that is available to the public. The Location is the site of the Edwards Manufacturing Mill that once fueled the city of Augusta's economy but after it burned down in 1993, the city looked to other sources of economical gain and left the open expanse barren since then. In recent years, the park has begun to evolve again and take foot as a public recreation and commerce foothold on the shores of the Kennebec River.
In recent years, the park has evolved from a barren landscape to a quickly filling, tourist attraction. The first and more prominent addition to the park was the large pavilion that was constructed in order for nearby farmers and craftsman could sell their goods in a centralized and simple location. Secondly, A public, fenced in dog parkways added at the far end of the Park that is available to all residents so long as the pertain to the rules that are posted on the fences. As we move down the riverside, the city of Augusta has a set of 4 public petanque courts (petanque is a sport very similar to lawn darts but played with spheres rather then weighted darts). residents are allowed to use this facility and in the event that you do not have any equipment, it can be rented for free just up the road at the old Buker Middle School.
Lastly, the park is home to both a new Ice skating rink and a large flat expanse that is often rented with proceeds going to the city to maintain the park, for events such as the Cony High School homecoming kickoff, or the fair that comes to town once per year.
